Information

This map is a conversion from Halo.
The map has come a long way over a long time, it’s a very big map that is great for snipers and is made with CTF in mind, like many Halo maps.

The ice is icy, so icy jumpers will find they can zoom around the map very quickly despite its huge size.
There are also several teleporters (the green doors) that allow players to move very quickly from one base to the other (and to popular sniping positions along the way).

It’s a map that my friends and I used to love to play on XBOX over 8 years ago.

There are a lot of interesting CTF tactics to be discovered on this map, and since it’s a very faithful conversion, you can probably find tactical information from Halo players online.

Disclaimers:

It will probably run slowly on slow computers.
This version does not work with r_simpleshaders set to 0 in custom (bumpy) executables unless you add the following to the UrT shortcut: +set com_zonemegs 128
We are happy to take suggestions.
We are aware of several small bugs, but nothing major. A second public beta is planned.

To auto-download, in UrT join 203.167.255.194:27970 (RS Custom Maps Server), call a nextmap vote then a cyclemap vote.
For specific instructions, click Show:
Spoiler 1) Open console using the ~ (tilde) button.
2) Type /connect 203.167.255.194:27970 and push enter.
3) If the server is already on Sidewinder, skip the remaining steps. If not, move to step 4.
4) Wait until you’re in the server.
5) With console open again, type /callvote g_nextmap ut4_sidewinder_b1 and push enter.
6) With console still open, type /callvote cyclemap and push enter.

Click the “Show” button to show older screenshots and updates.
Spoiler Well Khaotik_Lord and I are making great progress with Sidewinder and I thought I’d share some screenshots. There is still a while to go and a lot will probably change but I just wanted to get the ball rolling.
We decided to make this map after Krasus released his Halo map based on Blood Gulch. This map is much more true to the original though, it will be almost exactly they way it is in Halo, with some slight scale and distance changes to fit this game better.
Oh and remember the big icy puddles on the ground that made the warthog slide all over the place? Gonna be some fun icy surfaces in this version too, to stay true to the original map <img src='http://forums.urbanterror.net/community/public/style_emoticons//grin.gif&#8217; class=’bbc_emoticon’ alt=’:-D’ />
Here’s a video of the original map on Halo in case anyone wants to see what it’s like. It’s a pretty big map, it is lots of fun for snipers as well as autos. The map is coming along great. We have done an absolute ton of work on it, and there is still an absolute ton more to go 😛 but it’s great fun doing such a big project and it’s gonna be so great when it’s done. Here are 8 new screenshots from the latest build! It is obviously still not complete and I haven’t tried to make it look like that either, but I think the screenies are pretty cool anyway <img src='http://forums.urbanterror.net/community/public/style_emoticons//grin.gif&#8217; class=’bbc_emoticon’ alt=’:-D’ />
P.S. when the map is released I will remove most of the screenshots, but because there is no map release yet I included a lot of screenshots instead, hope that is ok.

might want to check out here for some good terrain tips

and use the shader from ut4_tohunga for the ground, and blends from the 1st to the 2nd image using the common/alpha_## brushes

Keep up the mapping :DThanks :-D We decided that it will be as big as it needs to be really, if it’s over 50mb then so be it. I don’t like how people feel they have to lessen the quality of their textures or the amount of detail in a map because it’s too big (for example with ut4_twins), I personally love playing a map with rich graphics and don’t mind downloading a few extra MBs to see it :-D
However I must say at the moment it’s roughly 30% done and not even 5MB yet so it’s not even something to consider at this stage
